Situated Architectural Pedagogies of Co-making/-Becoming – Non-Conference Proceedings

The Situated Architectural Pedagogies of Co-making/-Becoming – Proceedings Book documents a three-day non-conference hosted by Istanbul Technical University in September 2025, within the Erasmus+ project SArPe – Socially Situated Architectural Pedagogies. Conceived as a “non-conference”, the event challenges competitive, individualised academic formats by creating a caring, collaborative environment for educators, students, activists and community partners.

Grounded in feminist ethics of care and theories of situated knowledge, the prologue frames architectural pedagogy as a practice of co-making and co-becoming with human and more-than-human collectives. Keynotes and contributions explore themes such as collective knowledge production, decolonial and queer pedagogies, community-driven studios, climate and spatial justice, and more-than-human design.

The programme combines an exhibition at ITU Taşkışla, talks and round-table discussions, “Kuştepe games” with local youth in the Neighbourhood House, and a tour of Istanbul’s collective spaces, treating the city itself as a learning environment.

The proceedings gather abstracts, biographies and reflective texts from participants coming from Turkey, Europe, Africa and Latin America, as well as short “experiences of situated learning” written by students involved in SArPe activities.

As a whole, the book consolidates an emerging community of practice around situated architectural pedagogies, offering references, stories and methods for those interested in re-imagining the design studio as a horizontal commons for shared learning and collective action.
